Brooklyn Museum acquires painting by Agostino Brunias

Notable Sale

Agostino Brunias's painting, A Group of Creole Women and their Servants in Dominica, was purchased by the Brooklyn Museum in late December 2010. This wonderful Caribbean conversation piece will be integrated into the Museum's permanent collection in early 2011.

“We have a large West Indian community,” said Richard Aste, the museum’s curator of European art. “When I saw it, it just screamed Brooklyn. We were looking for something from the 18th century, and we didn’t have anything like this.”

The acquisition received significant press attention, including coverage by the New York Times.
