Frieze London vs Frieze Masters 2026: Ten Works That Caught My Eye

Artlyst

Lucio Fontana's ceramic sculpture Madonna col bambino has caught the eye of Marie-Claudine Llamas, part of Robilant's booth at Frieze Masters.

Writing for Artlyst, Llamas explains:

"I always love the curation at Robilant; their mastery of juxtaposing Contemporary Art with Old Masters is rare, and I was looking forward to visiting their booth.

It was this small, wall-mounted Fontana that caught my eye, although best known for his slashed canvases, Fontana regarded ceramics as the “aristocracy of sculpture”.

His religious terracotta pieces from the 1940s and 1950s fuse Baroque exuberance with abstraction. This piece feels wonderfully tactile, its surface bearing the unmistakable marks of the artist’s hand. The dynamic modelling of the clay captures the very moment of its making."
