Robilant's exhibition Still Life, Then and Now features as one of The Guardian's top free exhibitions in London. Art critic Eddy Frankel writes how the historical span of 'this brilliant little show' underlines the enduring themes of the still life genre, the range of works exploding the notion that still life is only about fruit and flowers.
Particular highlights include a skull painting by Andy Warhol and one of Francisco de Zurbarán's tied-up sheep, with Frankel explaining:
"Separated by hundreds of years – Warhol’s painting from the 1970s, Zurbarán’s from the 1630s – it’s an intergenerational conversation about still life’s staying power, and the inevitability of death."
